Before starting my sentences, I would like to say that there is actually no structural difference between male and female breasts. The only difference is the excessive amount of estrogen in women. In men, this situation can cause psychological problems besides aesthetic problems. Therefore, I think this problem should certainly be resolved.
Some causes of breast enlargement in men
- Systemic diseases such as liver diseases
- Use of medication (e.g. stomach medications, anabolic steroids)
Apart from these reasons, the reasons of breast enlargement in men, infact, has not been clearly identified yet.
Gynecomastia is treated only by surgical methods, in other words, undergoing a surgery. If there is an excessive increase in adipose tissue, this situation can be resolved by liposuction. However, if there is an increase in breast tissue, excess tissue is removed by entering around the nipple. Based on my experiences, I prefer to apply both methods in combination to obtain healthier results from the surgery.
Post-procedure care after gynecomastia surgery
You may feel pain in the operation area after gynecomastia surgery. This can be eliminated with the medications I will prescribe after the surgery. Swelling and bruises can be observed for 1 week after the surgery. This situation should not worry you. In point of fact, a full recovery may take a week and the results of the surgery can be observed within about 3 months. After the surgery, you should protect your chest area from physical effects, excessive strain, and heavy working conditions.
Sutures are removed within 1 to 2 weeks after surgery. If you think you have a problem during this time, you should contact your doctor. The person should refrain from sexual activity for a week after gynecomastia surgery.
Does gynecomastia surgery leave scars?
As with any surgical operation, scars may not disappear after gynecomastia surgery. However, the scar left after gynecomastia surgery is too small to be seen or noticed.
Will the breast enlargement recur after surgery?
If your plastic surgeon is an expert in this field and has performed this operation many times and if you have exactly followed the instructions of your physician after the operation, the operation will be successful for sure. I have never witnessed a recurrence of this situation after breast reduction surgery. In general, these surgeries are one-time operations and the recurrence rate is very low.
Age Limit for Gynecomastia Surgery
There is no age limit since breast enlargement in men is a problem that starts at puberty. I recommend everyone who is suffering from this problem to have this surgery for both aesthetics and psychological well-being.
Does gynecomastia cause cancer?
Gynecomastia surgery is performed to remove the excess adipose tissue in the relevant area and to correct the aesthetic problems caused by the skin. In no case does gynecomastia surgery trigger or cause cancer. Today, the incidence of breast cancer among men is around 1%; It is very unlikely. Gynecomastia surgery does not change this percentage.

Differences between female and male breasts
In fact, there is no difference between a female breast and a male breast in terms of structure. The reason why the male breast does not become swollen and enlarged as in women is the difference in the hormonal structures of women. The working mechanism of the hormonal structure of women is different than that of men. Particularly in women who are about to give birth, breast growth reaches its peak.
There are no clear symptoms regarding breast enlargement in men. If there is a congenital hormonal disorder in a man’s breast, this situation is already noticed in adolescence. In other cases, a man can expect an enlargement in his breast if he has started to gain weight or has a problem with his liver.
How to prevent gynecomastia?
Although this is actually a genetic problem, there are several medically-indicated factors that influence breast enlargement in the male. Gynecomastia surgery is the only option to prevent breast enlargement in men. I have never observed that medications or herbal remedies are beneficial in any of my patients, other than surgery. The procedure is to surgically remove excess skin or fat in the breast area through the liposuction method.
